Capbreton

The Océanides beach is oriented facing west, which means that east winds are offshore perfect for flattening the water surface, while northwest winds are side-on from the right, with currents in summer due to thermals. The launch area is directly from the sandy beach, wide and without major obstacles, with a take-off zone to the north or south of the lifeguard station to avoid the crowd. The navigation area extends several hundred meters parallel to the beach, but you must stay within regulated limits to avoid encroaching on swimming or surfing zones.

Depending on the tides, the water surface varies: at high tide, the waves are more powerful and the ride longer, ideal for surfing but to be monitored while kiting; at low tide, the sandy bottom is exposed in places, making navigation more technical near the shore. The dominant west swells create a choppy to wavy water surface, with waves averaging 1 to 2 meters, which is well-suited for freestyle or wave riding for intermediates and advanced riders. In case of big swell, the beach quickly exposes and currents intensify near the channel.

Local peculiarity: the spot is crowded in summer with surfers and swimmers, kiting is often limited or tolerated off-season; prefer morning sessions or shoulder season for space. Always check municipal regulations for authorized zones.
