Plage de Dranguet
France · Normandie
The beach of Dranguet, located on the Cotentin coast in Normandy, is a quiet spot near the Jonville sailing club. It is about a hundred meters north of the club and remains little frequented by kitesurfers, windsurfers, or foilers. It is an ideal place to sail without crowds in a preserved natural setting.
The beach offers good sailing opportunities thanks to its fine sand and exposure to the dominant winds of the region. Conditions vary with the tides, typical of Normandy spots, allowing for varied sessions depending on the day's mood.
Close to other spots like Utah Beach, Dranguet attracts those seeking authenticity without the hustle and bustle of more famous places.

The beach of Dranguet is oriented west, perfect for side-on or side-shore winds when the wind comes from the northwest or west, the dominant directions in Cotentin. With southwest wind, it becomes side-on shore on starboard, ideal for progressing in freeride or in small waves. The water surface is generally chop at high tide with some swell, but at low tide, sandbanks create flatter areas for freestyle.
Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, wide and easy to access, with plenty of space for takeoff even for beginners. The sailing area extends several hundred meters offshore, but stay vigilant to the tides: at low tide, the water is shallow over a large area, perfect for training without stress. At high tide, the current can intensify near the shore, and the water surface becomes more agitated with short waves typical of the English Channel.
In summer, a northwest thermal can rise in the afternoon for regular sessions. The spot works well with winds from north-northwest to southeast, but avoid pure onshore winds from the north that make sailing physical. Prefer low tide for maximum space and a smooth bottom.
