France · Normandie
The beach of Coutainville, located in Agon-Coutainville in Normandy, is a popular freeride spot among local riders for its large expanse of fine sand and its exposure to the west wind. It has a calm atmosphere with few people outside of busy weekends, and access is easy from the coastal road.
The spot stretches for several hundred meters, ideal for launching the kite without obstruction. The mussel parks at the edge require just a bit of vigilance at the water's edge.
It is an authentic place in La Manche, perfect for combining a kite session and a walk on the wild beach.

The spot works well with a wind from SW to NW, which comes side-on or side-shore relative to the west-oriented beach. With a steady west wind, the water surface slightly dips into small waves, perfect for freeride wave. The water entry is directly on the wide sand, without major obstacles, and the launch area is huge to the north of the beach.
Depending on the tides, at high tide, the water rises to the first rocks and the water surface gains depth for freer navigation. At low tide, a large sandy area emerges, ideal for beginners who want to practice close to the shore, but be careful of the mussel areas that appear.
The navigation area extends 500m wide, with a current to watch especially in strong winds. The best runs are made along the beach to the south, avoiding the mussel parks to the north. In offshore wind (east), it closes quickly due to local gusts.
