Isleten
Switzerland · Uri
Isleten is the only kitesurf spot allowed on Lake Uri, in the canton of Uri in Switzerland. Located on the shores of Lake Lucerne, it attracts riders for its reliable thermal lift and its enclosed alpine setting.
The spot offers direct access from the beach, with a local atmosphere and conditions that vary according to the thermals from the north or south. It is a popular place for Swiss kitesurfers who are familiar with the lake's winds.
Surrounded by imposing mountains, Isleten combines navigation on a wide body of water and intense sessions when the wind establishes.

The best conditions come from the north wind, which blows side-shore along the length of the lake, perfect for regular and controlled sessions. The southern thermal works well too, but the southern föhn should be absolutely avoided as it makes navigation too violent and unpredictable on this enclosed lake.
Launching is done directly from the beach of Isleten, with a grassy or sandy take-off area nearby. The navigation area is marked to respect local rules, generally wide in front of the spot but be cautious of rocky shores and prohibited areas for wildlife.
The water is a tide-free lake, so stable, but it can become choppy with strong wind. Thermals rise in the afternoon during summer, ideal for jumps and freestyle. In föhn, the wind accelerates in the alpine corridor, making the spot technical even for experienced riders.
