Plage de La Hume
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The beach of La Hume, located in Gujan-Mestras in the heart of the Arcachon Bay, is one of the few spots where kitesurfing is officially allowed and reserved in the region. Lined with tamarisks and maritime pines, this vast beach offers an unobstructed panoramic view of the bay. It is a family-friendly place, with a relaxed atmosphere where kitesurfers, bathers, and walkers coexist.
The spot is particularly appreciated for its accessibility and comfort of practice. The beach has a designated and regulated launch area, ensuring safe sessions. On-site facilities include children's playgrounds, picnic areas, a seasonal beach restaurant, and paddle rentals. A lifeguard station is present, and the beach is monitored in July and August.
Medie storiche per mese — non è una previsione live.
The spot works with a wind orientation from South-West to North, making it a side-shore to side-on spot depending on conditions. At high tide, you can stand everywhere in a vast area extending over a kilometer, making the spot ideal for beginners with a very accessible water surface. At low tide, the depth decreases but remains usable, and the water surface stays relatively flat and sheltered from waves.
Launching is done directly from the wide beach, and the launch area is clearly marked. The spot is sheltered from waves as it is an inland bay. Attendance can be high, especially in the late afternoon and evening, with space shared between kitesurfers and bathers. Be aware of the high attendance at the spot during tourist periods.
