Caroual

The wind often blows from the West to Northwest, offering side-on to side-shore conditions depending on the exact orientation of the wind and the beach. Launching is easy on the large sandy area on the west side of the beach; the part near the village of Erquy is strictly prohibited for practice and launching due to the monitored swimming area.

The water surface in the bay of Erquy is generally sheltered, especially outside of high tide, which provides a more protected water surface suitable for beginners and schools; however, in open sea and at high tides, waves and currents can strengthen.

Typical navigation areas: operate facing the beach while staying on the western half and avoiding the access channel to the port. Launching and takeoff should be done far enough west to leave the central area for swimmers in season. Local schools operate from the beach and sometimes from the port if conditions on the beach are not favorable.

Local features: large beach over more than 2 km, lifeguard station in July-August, summer activities (beach sports) and frequent presence of other activities (land sailing, windsurfing) that must be respected.
