Plage du Ricanto
France · Corse
The Ricanto beach, located in the bay of Ajaccio, is a long stretch of white sand popular with riders. It is an accessible spot with a monitored swimming area, perfect for combining sessions and family time.
The wind conditions are ideal for kitesurfing and wingfoiling, with a good thermal in summer. There is a friendly atmosphere, typical of Corsican spots.
The Gulf of Ajaccio offers great freeride sessions, although the beach can get crowded in high season.
Medie storiche per mese — non è una previsione live.
The Ricanto beach is oriented southwest in the bay of Ajaccio, making it ideal for winds from the south/southwest or west, often side-on or side-shore depending on the exact direction. In west winds, it is offshore, which requires caution not to drift too far. The thermal is regular in summer in the late afternoon, around 15 knots, perfect for freeride or kitefoiling.
The navigation area is limited to 300 meters from the shore by regulation, beyond which kitesurfing is prohibited. Launching is done directly on the beach, but be careful of the strong shore break when the wind picks up. The launch area is spacious on this long beach, except in west winds where parking and a lamp post can be obstacles. You navigate in the gulf, with water getting deep quickly, and sessions possible throughout the gulf.
No significant tide in the Mediterranean, so the water surface remains constant: moderate chop in side-on wind, more agitated if strong onshore. The best months are September and November for wind consistency.
