Rio Jara is a spot located north of Tarifa, between La Jaima and Los Lances Norte, near the campsite of the same name. It is accessed by parking at La Jaima and then walking for about ten minutes. It is a popular place for its space and constant wind, especially during the main season.
The beach is wide and sandy, with a beautiful view of the mountains. There is a beach bar and amenities at the campsite, and a calm atmosphere due to the somewhat technical access.
The spot alternates between ocean and lagoon depending on the tide, but the lagoon is prohibited for kiting all year round to protect the wildlife.

The wind Poniente (west) blows side-on from the sea, perfect for navigation with a water state in chop with small waves, and up to 1.5-2 m with swell. For the Levante (east), it is side-offshore, ideal for waves on the ocean side, but without rescue service so caution is mandatory. The launch area is on a large sandy beach, spacious take-off zone without major obstacles.
The navigation area is on the ocean side, absolutely avoid the lagoon and the mouth of the river. At high tide, a lagoon forms behind the beach but it is prohibited for kiting, with wooden poles planted to protect it. In summer (June 15 - September 15), the spot is often no-go or zoned for bathers, prefer the marked areas at Los Lances Norte. Pedestrian access from the parking lot, few people due to the walk.
High tide is recommended for more space and safety. The spot is used as a teaching area by some schools, follow local rules and buy a rescue card for Levante.
