Le Truc Vert

The beach of Truc Vert, located on the Lège-Cap-Ferret peninsula in Gironde, is a wild spot in the heart of the state forest. It is accessed via a forest road from Petit Piquey, crossing a dune on foot. It’s a beautiful place, popular with surfers and locals for its northwest swell that creates nice waves.

The spot is exposed to the Atlantic Ocean, with preserved dunes that offer a natural atmosphere. It handles the dominant wind conditions well and is suitable for experienced riders who enjoy challenging sessions. In summer, one must deal with the crowds, but off-season, it’s a true preserved paradise.

Close to the Arcachon Basin, it remains somewhat isolated, which enhances its authentic and wild character.

Standort

Detaillierte Informationen

Truc Vert is oriented facing the ocean, ideal for side-on to side-off winds coming from the Southwest or Northwest, which come in perfectly perpendicular or slightly offshore to the beach. West to North winds are also usable, bringing regular thermal winds of 2 to 5 beauforts in the region. The launch is directly on the beach after crossing the dune, with a wide but exposed take-off area to ocean gusts.

The water state varies greatly with the tide: at low tide, there are shallow areas with a sandy bottom, perfect for waterstarts, but at high tide, it quickly becomes deep water with powerful waves. The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, but one must remain vigilant about wave peaks that can rise from small to big waves. There is no dedicated kite zone like on the Basin, it’s a shared surf-kite spot, so anticipate surfers and bathers in season.

Local peculiarity: the spot is more surf than pure kite, with a constant chop and waves that require good power management. In SW-NW wind, we ride side-shore clean, but onshore from the East makes the water state messy. Pedestrian access is mandatory, plan for light gear and check tide times to optimize.
