Île-d’Houat

The Tréac'h er Gourèd beach is located on the island of Houat in Brittany, in Morbihan. It is a wild beach over 2 km long in a crescent shape, with a dune cordon protected from the dominant west winds. The water is remarkably clear and the atmosphere remains calm all year round.

The spot is popular among kitesurfing enthusiasts for its space and varied conditions. Accessible only by boat from Quiberon in 30 minutes, the island offers a setting preserved from mass tourism. The beach is owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral and is not monitored.

Detaillierte Informationen

The Tréac'h er Gourèd spot works well with east winds, such as NE, ENE, E, or ESE, which are then side-shore or side-on relative to the west-facing beach. Launching is done directly on the fine sandy beach, with a wide launching area thanks to the 2 km of sand. The navigation area extends in front of the beach, but be careful of the rocks at the ends.

The water is generally chop with small to medium waves depending on the wind strength and the swell from Mor Braz. Tides have little influence on navigability as the beach remains wide even at low tide, but at high tide, the water's edge rises over the embryonic dunes. It is a spot exposed to ocean swell, ideal for freeride or moderate wave riding when the waves form.

Local peculiarity: the island is small so sessions remain short, often combined with downwinds from the bay of Quiberon. Prefer days without storms to avoid gusts due to the island's back relief.
