Camaret-sur-Mer

The Pen Hat beach in Camaret-sur-Mer, located between the Toulinguet and Pen Hir points, offers a wild and spectacular setting on the Crozon peninsula. It is a popular spot for experienced surfers and kiters due to its powerful waves and rugged landscapes.

Despite the strict swimming ban due to dangerous conditions, the beach attracts sliding enthusiasts with its regular west winds and its exposure to the Iroise Sea. Access is via a small road from Camaret, with parking above the beach.

The site dominates with its natural beauty, featuring the ruins of the Saint-Pol-Roux manor in the background, and remains an authentic place for intense sessions.

Standort

Detaillierte Informationen

The Pen Hat beach is oriented towards the west, making it ideal for side-on to side-off winds from the west and west-northwest, typical of the region. These prevailing winds create a choppy water surface with powerful waves, perfect for freeride or wave kitesurfing. The launch is directly from the sandy beach, but you need to choose a wide area to avoid the breaking zones near the points.

The navigation area extends in front of the beach, between the Toulinguet fort and the Pen Hir point, with space to maneuver despite the waves. Be cautious of the tides: at low tide, the water reveals more sandy bottom but the waves remain consistent; at high tide, the water rises quickly and the rollers come closer to the shore. Launching is done on the dry sand at the top of the beach, with ample space to launch the kite without disturbing surfers.

Local peculiarity: the winds can strengthen quickly with Atlantic storms, and the spot is exposed to west swells. Prefer morning sessions for a more thermal wind and less crowd; experienced practitioners find solid wave kiting conditions here, but beginners should avoid it.
