Playa De Los Bateles
Espagne · Andalusia
Playa de Los Bateles, in Conil de la Frontera, is an urban and easily accessible spot, right in front of the city center. It is a beach appreciated by local riders for its quick access, simple atmosphere, and often exploitable conditions when the wind comes in well.
The spot mainly works during the good wind season, with a kitesurfing area known near the mouth of the rio Salado. The place remains practical for kitesurfing, but it requires dealing with beach traffic and tide adjustments.

The beach is oriented to well receive winds from the west sector, and it also works with winds more from the southwest according to local sources and schools in the area. For kitesurfing, the wind is often side-shore to side-on with components SW, WSW, SSW, and SSE reported by local practitioners, while poniente is cited as the most favorable. Ground sources indicate that levante can also come through, but it quickly becomes less comfortable if it is strong.
The water surface depends a lot on the tide and the beach's exposure. Generally, one finds navigation with small waves and moderate chop, especially around the mouth of the rio Salado, and the area can become more agitated when the wind rises. Launching is typically done from the beach or from the parking area near the river, with a launch to be organized properly to avoid bathers, especially in summer. The launch area is therefore quite wide but remains very busy, which imposes the need to maintain a significant safety margin.
In summer, navigation restrictions apply to part of the sector, and local schools remind that practice then requires more vigilance and constraints. Off-season, the spot becomes easier to use, but it remains exposed to beach traffic, sometimes irregular wind, and variations in water level near the sand spit and channel.
