Maldives · South Nilandhe Atoll
Vilu Reef, in the South Nilandhe Atoll at Meedhoo, is a well-known resort spot for riders looking for a clean setting, lagoon, and a beautiful reef nearby. The place is especially appreciated for its calm atmosphere and direct access to the water, with easy navigation when the wind is well established.
The spot is more suitable for those who want to ride in a relaxed environment, with space in the lagoon and beautiful turquoise water. It is more of a travel spot than pure performance, but it can offer very good sessions when conditions align.

The spot mainly works with a side-shore to side-on wind relative to the resort beach, which remains the cleanest and most comfortable for riding. The lagoon is wide and offers a fairly simple launch area, with water generally flat to slightly choppy depending on the wind state and tide. According to available feedback, the water often remains calm in the lagoon, making it easier to launch and return to shore.
Navigation mainly takes place in the lagoon in front of the resort, with a useful safety margin for relaunches and transitions. The bottom seems generally sandy in the exploitable area, and access is directly from the resort beach. However, you need to stay attentive to the reef area and more exposed sectors as soon as you move away from the main water body. It’s not a wave spot, but a flat water spot with a very comfortable lagoon setting.
The spot is most interesting when the wind is consistent and the tide does not expose too many areas of the reef. With a good direction, you enjoy a clean water state for freeride, cruising, and maneuver work. It’s a spot that forgives more than a very technical reef spot, but it remains essential to keep an eye on the reef, shallow areas, and the logic of the tide.
