Vauville beach, located on the Cotentin coast in Normandy, offers a wild and uncrowded setting with a wide stretch of sand and cliffs behind the beach. It is a spot favored by locals for its often consistent wind and its orientation favorable for wave and foil sessions. Vauville is especially known to riders for its long beaches and easy access from the D650.
The beach hosts both kitesurfing, windsurfing, and surfing practitioners. The atmosphere is quite relaxed and the spot rarely gets crowded, even in the summer season. Cotentin is the reference region for kitesurfing in Normandy.

The wind often blows side-shore to side-on depending on the direction: with a dominant west/northwest wind, it is rather side-shore, while in south and southwest it becomes side-on or side-off depending on the coastline's bayonet. The water alternates between flat areas and choppy areas: the bay offers flat sections in case of northeast/east wind and breaking waves when the wind is from the west or northwest. The main launch area is from the wide sandy beach, with space to take off and land kites; expect to walk a bit depending on the tide to reach sufficiently deep water.
Navigation areas are wide but you should avoid the part close to the cliffs and the channels where the current can strengthen. At low tide, sandbanks appear and modify the navigable areas: prefer a launch close to the center of the bay at mid-tide or high tide for more depth. Local schools and riders generally position the launch area near the main parking lot for good visibility.
Local peculiarities: the wind can be marked by gusts related to the relief of the cliffs and the geography of the bay, making strength changes frequent over short distances. Watch out for bathers in summer and for equipment left on the sand: the beach is monitored but the practice space is shared with other users.
