Cape Town

Melkbos Beach is located at the northern end of the Table View area, in Cape Town, on the west coast of South Africa. It is the last spot in this famous series of beaches that stretches from south to north, after Haakgat and Big Bay. The beach offers a spacious setting with fine sand and beach-break waves that form in front of a long sandy beach.

The spot is popular among riders of all levels for its versatility: wave riders, freestylers, and big air lovers all find their place here. Melkbos receives more swell than Tableview, making it an interesting destination for those seeking wave conditions. The atmosphere is that of a spot popular with locals, shared with surfers and windsurfers, which requires respect and good etiquette.

Informazioni dettagliate

Melkbos primarily works with winds from southwest, south, and south-southeast, which are the dominant directions. The wind can also come from the south-southwest and northwest. Compared to the beach, the southwest to south wind creates side-shore to side-onshore conditions, generating clean, rideable waves.

Launching is done from the wide sandy beach, with generous space for rigging and takeoff. The water features beach-break waves that offer excellent conditions for wave riding. Under normal conditions, the spot provides a good balance between waves and wind. However, caution is advised: the wind can be gusty on the beach itself, so keep the kite at a low angle to avoid issues.

Melkbos is the northernmost spot in the Table View series. General rule: if the south wind becomes too strong elsewhere, heading up to Melkbos usually offers less intense conditions. The spot is also popular for downwinders, particularly for wave riders and those who love to boost high. The best waves are generally found downstream of Big Bay.
