Babaomby Island Lodge Spot
Madagascar · Diana
The Babaomby lagoon, located at the extreme north of Madagascar between the Mozambique Channel and the Indian Ocean, is a world-renowned kitesurfing spot. Ranked among the ten windiest spots on the planet according to Windguru, this lagoon is 12 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide, offering an exceptional setting with its crystal-clear waters and isolated paradise islets.
The spot is protected by a vast coral reef that creates exceptional sailing conditions. Direct access from the Babaomby Island Lodge, an eco-lodge located right in front of the lagoon, makes this spot particularly accessible. It is a place where kitesurfing, windsurfing, and wingfoiling coexist in a friendly and authentic atmosphere, away from the crowds.

The Babaomby lagoon offers side-on to onshore conditions with a continuous wind blowing from the Indian Ocean. The water surface is generally very flat in the main lagoon, protected by the coral reef, making it an ideal playground for all levels.
Launching is done directly from the lodge beach, with no obstacles. The launch area is spacious and well organized with high-level safety measures. Two wave areas are accessible just 15 minutes of sailing away, located on the reef, where riders can find varied wave conditions. A spot called 'La Piscine' is regularly explored during downwind outings organized by the staff, offering the flattest area of the lagoon with lunch on the islet Nosy Antaly Be.
The wind is remarkably regular and continuous, blowing almost daily during the main season. Conditions vary with tidal coefficients, creating interesting dynamics throughout the day. The gradual depth and crystal-clear waters allow for long and safe sessions.
