Royan

The beach of Royan, located in Nouvelle-Aquitaine on the Atlantic coast, is a popular spot for kitesurfing due to its proximity to the bay of Bonne Anse. About fifteen kilometers away, this sheltered bay offers a calm and shallow water area, ideal for safe sessions. Local schools like Accrokite and Picair offer courses year-round.

The spot attracts riders for its consistent wind and sandbanks that allow for orientation adjustments based on conditions. There is a friendly atmosphere with experienced instructors and designated areas reserved for kitesurfing. It is a perfect place to progress without the ocean waves.

Near the estuary of the Gironde, the beach combines accessibility and natural scenery, with options like the sandbank of the Cordouan lighthouse for boat outings.

Informazioni dettagliate

The spot at Royan beach is oriented westward, which favors side-on or side-shore winds from the northwest and west, the most common on the Atlantic coast. The bay of Bonne Anse, 15 minutes away, is the heart of navigation: protected from ocean waves, it offers a flat to slightly choppy water surface even in strong winds. The launch area is on sandbanks exposed at low tide, with standing water everywhere up to several hundred meters.

The take-off zone is marked and reserved for kitesurfing to avoid swimmers in summer. Depending on the tides and wind, navigation occurs on different sandbanks in the bay, always in shallow water. At high tide, the water surface widens but remains navigable; at low tide, dry areas allow for easy access. Local feature: in case of an offshore east wind, the bay becomes very flat, perfect for freestyle, but be cautious of rapid direction changes.

For advanced riders, an option is the sandbank of the Cordouan lighthouse, accessible by boat from the port (20 minutes), with more space in the middle of the estuary. Overall, it is a versatile spot for all levels, with thermal wind during the day in summer and freeride sessions in winter.
