Plage d’Arène Cros
France · Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
The Arène Cros beach is located along the corniche of the same name, at the exit of La Ciotat towards Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer. It is a succession of small pebble and smooth rock beaches, generally not crowded and ideal for those seeking tranquility.
The spot is known as a surf location for experienced surfers, with a rocky bottom to watch out for. For kitesurfing, it is a tense place where the road runs directly along the beach, with not much space to set up.
Allowed in summer unlike other nearby beaches, it works well with southeast winds that generate waves in front of the nearby breakwaters.
Medie storiche per mese — non è una previsione live.
The spot mainly works with strong southeast winds, which are then side-on relative to the beach oriented generally west-east. This orientation allows for freeride, freestyle, or even wave riding sessions in front of the breakwaters where the waves form well.
The navigation area extends beyond 300 meters from the beach to avoid summer prohibitions on other nearby spots, with possible boat support via local schools to access more consistent and less choppy water. The water entry is technical on pebbles and smooth rocks, accessible by stairs at the center of the corniche or directly from the small coves.
Not much space for takeoff: the beach is narrow, the road runs just behind, so one must be precise and experienced to launch and land without risking the roadway. In winter, one can set up on the esplanade when high tide erodes the beach. The water state varies with the tides: more choppy or wavy with southeast winds, but in summer it is often flat and without reliable wind.
