Plage du Roussillon
France · Occitanie
The Roussillon beach in Canet-en-Roussillon, Occitanie, is a lively spot on the Mediterranean coast, bordered by a long stretch of fine sand. It is a popular place for local kitesurf schools due to its proximity to Perpignan and easy access from the coastal road.
Close to the famous Pont des Basses, this spot mainly attracts experienced riders when the tramontane picks up, but remains accessible to beginners in summer with lighter winds. The atmosphere is friendly, shared between kites, wingfoils, and bathers during the season.
With its breakwater generating small waves, it offers varied conditions depending on the season, ideal for progressing safely with the many schools on site.
Medie storiche per mese — non è una previsione live.
The Roussillon beach spot mainly works with the tramontane coming from the north-west, a powerful side-off wind that pushes quickly offshore, making navigation technical but exciting. In summer, a side-shore thermal breeze from the south-east offers calmer and more regular sessions, perfect for maneuvers. The navigation area is marked out to about 300 meters wide in season, with easy access to the water on fine sand and a wide launch area on the beach, but be careful of the shared space with schools and bathers.
The water is chop to wave with small clean waves created by the breakwater, ideal for bouncing in freeride. In strong tramontane, schools like We Love Kite use a boat for controlled drift and return, avoiding long walks on the beach. The southern areas are more suitable for beginners in summer, while the nearby Pont des Basses is favored by pros with gusts up to 30 knots.
There is ample parking along the road for launching, and the shallow water at the shore facilitates waterstarts, but be vigilant about offshore drift in strong winds.
