Plage de Saint-Michel-en-Grève
France · Bretagne
The beach of Saint-Michel-en-Grève, located in Brittany on the Pink Granite Coast, offers a vast expanse of fine sand measuring 3 to 4 km wide. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing schools like Kite's Cool due to its direct access to the sea and family-friendly atmosphere.
The school is set up directly on the beach with changing rooms and a simulator for safe initiation. The area attracts beginners and independent riders thanks to its shallow water and absence of rocks.
Open year-round, the beach is ideal for progressing from piloting to freestyle, with monitored navigation for the more cautious.

The beach of Saint-Michel-en-Grève is oriented west, making it perfect for a side-on or side-shore wind coming from the SW, W, or NW, with the best being the frontal SW that pushes directly onto the flat water surface. The wind is often a bit weaker than to the north of Trégor, but regular thanks to the sheltered bay of Plestin-les-Grèves.
The launch area is wide across the entire sandy beach, with easy take-off even at low tide as the water remains shallow for several hundred meters from the shore – you can stand up to your knees for piloting. The navigation area extends for kilometers in the secure bay, without obstacles, ideal for jumps and freestyle in flat to lightly choppy conditions.
At high tide, the water surface gains depth but remains calm; at low tide, be careful of seagrass that may litter the beach and shallow water, making launching technical in places. Locals advise navigating in the center of the bay to avoid areas too exposed to occasional swell.
