Plage de Goêrem
France · Bretagne
The Goêrem beach, located on the peninsula of Gâvres in Brittany, is a vast stretch of fine sand to the west of the village. It is a popular spot for local kitesurfers due to its varied exposure and relative calm outside the summer season.
Close to the center of Gâvres, it offers direct access from the rue de l’Église via a few stairs. The beach remains uncrowded even in summer, with a few houses along the edge and an authentic atmosphere facing the Lorient harbor.
Ideal for freeride and small waves, it attracts independent riders and local kite schools.

Goêrem beach works well with winds from North-West, West, South-West, South, South-East, and East, often in side-shore or side-on depending on the dominant direction coming from the sea. With west or south-west wind, it is perfect side-shore for smooth freeride sessions, while east brings a more onshore wind with a choppy water surface.
The launch area is on the well-sanded western part, accessible at all tides except in summer when bathers occupy the central zone; one then moves to the east near the rock-filled jetty, but avoid 2 hours before and after high tide. The navigation area extends over 500m of beach with good offshore width, but be cautious of downwind under the dune with south wind which creates tricky turbulence at take-off.
At low tide, the gentle slope allows for easy learning with long footing; at mid-tide, the water surface is optimal for freeride and punchy waves on the rise. Take-offs and landings are done on the narrow beach, vigilance is mandatory near the departmental road that runs along the spot.
