Plage de la Becassine
Switzerland · Genève
The Bécassine beach, located in Versoix on the shores of Lake Geneva, is a small spot popular among Geneva kitesurfers despite its official status. Surrounded by a public park, it offers direct access to the water at the mouth of the Versoix, with a local and relaxed atmosphere.
Riders appreciate this place for its proximity to Geneva and its potential when the wind establishes over the lake. Even though the beach is narrow, it allows for gear preparation on a grassy area before launching.
It is a technical spot that requires some experience, but once launched, navigation on Lake Geneva is enjoyable.

The spot works well with a side-on or side-shore wind coming from the southwest or west, typical of Lake Geneva which channels gusts. The orientation of the beach exposes a wide water surface but is subject to thermals in the afternoon. Launching is done on pebbles, making takeoff technical and delicate, especially with the small size of the beach.
Prepare your gear on the grassy area next to it, and avoid swimming hours in summer. The navigation area extends out on the lake, but remain vigilant about boats and fishing zones. There is no significant tide on Lake Geneva, so the water surface remains constant, often choppy in strong winds.
Local peculiarity: the spot is next to a public park, ideal for observing sessions, but launching requires precision to avoid disturbing walkers or families.
