At Kalafati, the dominant wind usually comes from NW to N, which most often results in a side-on to side-shore wind depending on the exact axis of the beach. This is a rather comfortable configuration for sailing, with easy launching on the large sandy beach. According to spot feedback and specialized guides, the water is generally flat to slightly choppy, with a bit more texture when the wind picks up or when the flow strengthens in summer.
The spot works well in the typical north regimes of Mykonos, and it becomes significantly more interesting when the wind settles in regularly. The sailing area is offshore from the beach, with takeoff to be planned on the sand and special attention to the available space, as the spot is also frequented by other windsurfing and kitesurfing practitioners.
