The 3 Colonnes in Le Barcarès, Occitanie, is an iconic spot on Lido beach, north of the city center. Formerly a windsurfing temple, it now attracts kitesurfers for its south-oriented winds and nice waves.
The spot is part of the official sites of the municipality, with a dedicated area for practice. Schools like the Mediterranean Nautical Center are available for equipment rental or progression.
Surrounding the area, there are walks to the Cathar castles or the fortress of Salses, to vary the pleasures after a session.

The spot mainly works with southeast or south winds, which are side-on relative to the north-south oriented beach, providing consistent power to ride the waves. The navigation area is marked to avoid conflicts with surfers, who frequently enjoy the waves of the spot. The launch is directly from the wide, accessible sandy beach, with plenty of space for takeoff even when it's crowded.
In summer, thermal winds can enhance the session, but be cautious of gusts when the tramontane makes its presence felt from the northwest, making the water surface more choppy. The best sector is facing the 3 Colonnes monument, along Lido Avenue, where you find flat water at the edge and more consistent waves offshore. Tides have little influence on the spot in the Mediterranean, but check the times to avoid holes near the shore.
Local peculiarity: the spot is very popular, so arrive early to grab a spot. Bases like UCPA or Eole offer rental equipment and lessons to adapt to the day's conditions.
