France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
La Salie in La Teste-de-Buch is a vast ocean beach located in the Landes de Gascogne, about 6 kilometers from the Dune of Pilat. It is a popular kitesurfing spot for independent riders and schools due to its spacious area and varied conditions.
Access to the beach requires a short walk and a dune climb from the free parking. It is supervised in summer and has a sliding point for kite, surf, and land sailing.
The spot works well all year round, with designated areas for practice during the summer season.

La Salie beach is oriented west, facing the Atlantic Ocean, making it ideal for side-on to side-off winds coming from the southwest to northwest, or even onshore in pure west. In summer, a channel is marked by the CRS and SNSM rescuers from June 25 to September 5, requiring you to go well upwind to avoid drifting towards the port of l'Herbe or the prohibited conche to the north, marked by yellow buoys.
Launching is done directly on the wide beach, with a dedicated take-off area 200 meters wide, starting 50 meters north of the regulated area at La Salie Nord. At low tide, the baïnes and sandbanks offer a flat and shallow water surface, perfect for jumps and freestyle, while at high tide, there are more waves behind the banks for riders seeking surf rides.
The spot is accessible by summer thermal or depression winds the rest of the year. Beware of the shore break which can be strong with formed seas. Schools and independent practitioners often position themselves on La Salie Sud or Nord depending on the conditions.
