Pays-Bas
Texel
Oudeschild, a small fishing village on the southeast coast of Texel in the Netherlands, has become a popular spot for kitesurfing. Facing the Wadden Sea, it offers an authentic setting with its lively port and natural landscapes.
The dynamic water conditions and consistent winds make it a favored location for experienced riders seeking a challenge. The atmosphere is relaxed, away from the crowds of the more touristy spots on the island.
Close to the dikes and grassy fields, it is a convenient place for a session after a stroll on the island.

Informations utiles
The Oudeschild spot mainly works with strong and consistent offshore winds coming from the west to northwest, creating a dynamic water surface ideal for freeride and wave. The launch takes place on a sandy beach, but at high tide, the space is reduced and you need to use the grassy field behind the dike for takeoff. The navigation area extends facing the southeast coast, with open space towards the Wadden Sea, but be careful of fishing boats leaving the nearby port.
In case of east to southeast wind, the wind becomes more side-shore, making the spot workable for more technical sessions, although less powerful than with the westerlies. The water surface is generally choppy to medium waves, influenced by the tides that change the depth and state of the water: more agitated at low tide with exposed rocky areas. Locals recommend sailing wide of the port to avoid the channels and currents.
Ideal conditions are with winds NE, ENE, E, SE, SSE, ESE, NNE at 20-30 kts, side-shore to offshore, for a clean and powerful water surface. Optimal score around 54/100 like today with 24.6 kts.
The water surface is typically choppy with small/medium waves, with a bottom mixing fine sand, small shells, and rocks near the shore. The beach is wide at low tide but narrow at high tide, favoring choppy water due to offshore winds.
The currents are moderate in the area, but more pronounced near the Oudeschild port and the channels of the Wadden Sea. Tides strongly influence the spot: at low tide, the waters retreat and expose shallow areas; at high tide, the current can accelerate with incoming flows.
Opt for sizes 7 to 11m² depending on your weight and the wind: 7-9m for strong days, 10-11m when it's lighter. Adjust according to the powerful westerlies typical of the spot.
The prevailing winds are westerlies, strong and consistent in the afternoon, often around 20-30 kts in season. The regime is reliable due to the island's exposed position, with ideal sessions in midday to afternoon. The directions NW to E predominate, creating perfect offshore conditions for this southeast-oriented spot.
The climate of Texel is oceanic, with moderate temperatures year-round: 5-10°C in winter and 15-20°C in summer. The best months for kitesurfing are April, May, September, October, and November, with steady winds and long days. Winter brings powerful but cold wave sessions, while summer is milder but sometimes less windy.
La profondeur est progressive avec un fond principalement sableux, ponctué de pierres et herbe près de la rive. On a pied sur une bonne distance à marée basse.
Water temperatures range from 4-8°C in winter to 16-20°C in summer. A 5/4mm wetsuit is mandatory most of the time, with a hood and booties in the cold season.
