The spot works well with winds from N, NW, NE according to the local school, but the directions SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, NNW are also ideal according to experienced users and confirmed by several sources on the IJsselmeer. These winds are generally side-shore or side-on relative to the south-facing beach, providing good power without too much drift.
The water is exceptionally shallow up to 100 meters from the shore, making it easy to launch directly from the water or grassy beach. The navigation area extends over the lake with a large launch zone near the campsite, but care must be taken to stay away from swimming areas and boats in season.
Behind the sandbar, the water becomes deeper up to 5 meters, ideal for foiling. No tidal influence, the water remains stable. The spot can be crowded in high season, especially on weekends.
The best sessions occur with winds of 10-20 knots in the directions N, NW, NE, SSW, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NNW. Sideshore conditions for smooth and stress-free navigation.
The water is flat to choppy, with waves up to 1 meter in strong winds. Sand bottom, perfect for falls. In summer, there is underwater vegetation to watch out for.
Currents are negligible on this freshwater lake, with no tides affecting navigation. No major current risk, making the spot very safe for progression.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 11 m² in typical light to moderate winds of the spot. In gusts or stronger winds, go down to 7-9 m².
The prevailing wind comes from the west and southwest, with typical speeds of 10-20 knots in season. Reliability is average around 34%, but the proximity to the North Sea ensures regular sessions, particularly in the afternoon with thermals.
