Galu Beach
The beach of Galu Kinondo Beach, located at Galu Beach in the Kwale region of Kenya, is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its pristine white sand and east-facing orientation towards the Indian Ocean. Just south of Diani Beach, it offers a paradise-like atmosphere with fewer crowds compared to more touristy areas, and a wide beach of at least 100 meters at low tide.
The spot is accessible via a dirt track after Diani, near the fishing village and Aqualand, in a still preserved setting with an established kitesurfing community. It is an ideal place to combine riding sessions and tropical relaxation.

Informations utiles
The beach of Galu Kinondo Beach is east-facing, making winds from NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE, SSE, S perfect, arriving side-on to side-shore for a smooth ride along the beach. The water surface varies greatly with the tides: super flat and shallow at low tide in the morning, ideal for tricks and beginners, then more chop at rising tide when the wind picks up, and small to medium waves thanks to the parallel reef.
The riding area extends several kilometers in the clear lagoon, with a gap in the reef to the north forming a nice point break for wave riding. Easy entry everywhere on the hard sand without obstacles, launching on the wide beach at low tide. Prefer sessions early in the morning at low tide for pure flat without crowds, or at sunset on a small tide for golden conditions. In high season, it can be busy with around thirty kites, but remains uncongested overall.
Ideal conditions are with wind from NE to S side-shore, 15-25 knots, at low tide for pure flat or incoming tide for clean waves at the point.
The water surface is shallow and flat at low tide over a white sandy bottom, perfect for freestyle. It turns to chop during incoming tide with wind, and offers small to medium waves on the reef for wave riding, especially in the kusi season. The water is crystal clear and pollution-free.
Currents are generally weak in the lagoon but can intensify near the reef gap or during outgoing tide. Tides are moderate, with coming tide and falling tide recommended for worry-free riding.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12m² in light to moderate wind, and 7 to 9m² when it picks up in the afternoon or on waves.
The wind is consistent and reliable, typically blowing from NE during the dry season and from SE, SSE, S in the afternoon, with average strengths around 15-25 knots. There is no specific local name, but it picks up around noon and remains stable due to the southeast trade winds.
The tropical climate of the Kwale region is warm year-round, with temperatures around 28-32°C during the day. The dry seasons from January to April and October to December are the most pleasant for kitesurfing, while June to September also brings reliable wind but with more humidity.
