Informations utiles
Dominant winds come from the SW, W, and NW, often providing an ideal side-on or side-shore angle relative to the northwest-oriented beach. The water surface is generally choppy to wavy, with waves from 0.4 m to more depending on the 270° swell and tides.
Navigation areas are strictly delineated: zone 1A Skuytevaert (south) for beginners with a school, zone 5 KBS (middle), and zone 23 Airtime (north). Launching is done on the wide sand, easy even at low tide, but check the markers. Optimal takeoff near the clubs boulevard side vuurtoren (strandvak 5).
In summer, traffic is dense with surfers and bathers; stay in your zone. Conditions improve at low tide for more space, but onshore wind can make chop more pronounced in the afternoon.
Ideal conditions are side-shore W-NW winds at 15-25 kts stable, with medium tide for a smooth water surface and rideable waves without too much chop.
Avoid pure onshore winds from the south that make the sea choppy.
The water surface is wave with short and challenging waves, especially under onshore or side-off winds. At high tide, more chop; at low tide, exposed sandy bottom ideal for freestyle.
Wide sandy beach ensures good space, but swell from 270° creates engaging surfkite conditions for intermediates and advanced riders.
Currents are moderate typical of the North Sea, influenced by tides with a tidal range of about 1.5-2 m. They remain weak near the shore but can accelerate in offshore channels.
Be cautious of rapid changes around club areas; check tide forecasts for safety.
Opt for sizes 9 to 11 m² in light winds 10-15 kts, 7-9 m² for typical 20-25 kts, and 5-7 m² in strong sessions over 30 kts with gusts.
Adjust according to weight and style; freestyle is okay in light chop.
The wind regime is regular due to the proximity of the North Sea, with typical strengths of 15-30 kts gusting up to 45-65 kts during depressions. The directions ZZW, NW, NNW prevail, sometimes onshore from the south which chops the water surface.
No specific local name, but strong northwest winds are the most reliable for long sessions.
The climate is temperate oceanic, with temperatures around 13°C in spring and autumn, rising to 18-20°C in summer. Mild winters rarely drop below 5°C, but sessions are rare in cold wind.
The best months are variable, often from March to October for a wind score around 50/100 and frequent winds of 15-30 kts.
La profondeur est progressive avec un fond entièrement sableux, pied assuré jusqu'à 50-100 m du bord en marée basse. Parfait pour waterstarts et premières sessions.
Water temperatures range from 8-12°C in winter/spring to 16-20°C in summer. A 5/4mm neoprene is essential outside the summer season.
