Cardedu

The Museddu beach, located in Cardedu on the eastern coast of Sardinia, is a long stretch of fine golden sand bordered by a pine forest. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing enthusiasts due to its often favorable winds and tranquil atmosphere away from the crowds.

The beach extends for about 2 to 3 km, with easy access and free parking along the road. There are rentals for water sports equipment and services to relax peacefully, ideal for families or solo kite sessions.

Surrounded by the Gulf of Orosei, it offers crystal clear water perfect for snorkeling or first sessions, with a kitesurfing school on site to help you progress.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.

Riding conditions

Museddu beach is oriented east-southeast, making it ideal for east and southeast winds in side-on or side-shore conditions perfect for kitesurfing. The water surface is generally flat to choppy with stable summer winds, but can become wavy when the wind picks up. Launching is done directly from the wide sandy beach 45 m wide, with no obstacles, and the take-off area is huge before the kitesurfing center.

The navigation area extends over 2-3 km of the bay, with enough space to maneuver without disturbing swimmers concentrated in the center. Morning sessions are great as the water is calm before the heat, and the shallow bottom allows for easy kite relaunching.

Local feature: the summer thermal winds are reliable, and there is a Kite Surf Ogliastra school on the spot for gear or lessons. The spot works well for freestyle or light wave when conditions turn.

Ideal wind
Edominant
SEdominant

Ideal conditions are east-southeast winds at 18-25 knots, side-shore, for a smooth and consistent water surface. Perfect in summer for long sessions without risking overpowered conditions.

Sea state

The water is crystal clear and transparent, with a calm water surface in the morning evolving to moderate chop in the afternoon under the wind. In strong winds, it can form small surfable waves for experienced riders.

Sea currents

Currents are generally weak in the protected bay, but can strengthen near the rocky points at the ends. Tides are moderate in the Mediterranean, with no major impact on navigation, but check the schedules for shallow areas.

Recommended kite size

Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in typical summer conditions, or 7-9 m² when it blows over 25 knots. Larger kites are suitable for light wind days.

Weather & wind

The prevailing winds come from the east and southeast, often stable in summer due to thermals, with strengths around 15-25 knots in the afternoon. There is no specific local name, but the coast is exposed to summer trade winds that make the spot reliable from June to September.

Climate

The Mediterranean climate of eastern Sardinia offers hot summers with temperatures around 25-30°C in July-August, and mild winters around 10-15°C. It is a dry and sunny area year-round, perfect for kiting even outside the high season.

Depth

The bottom is sandy with some pebbles, and the depth increases quickly from just a few meters from the shore. No long footings, perfect for relaunches but watch out for falls.

Water temperature

In summer, the water reaches 22-25°C from June to September, while in winter it drops to around 15-18°C. A shorty wetsuit is sufficient in high season.
