The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The Aqualand spot works well with two distinct wind regimes. With the tramontane (northwest wind), the water surface smooths out and becomes ideal for windsurfing and freestyle. With the sea breeze (southeast to south), the spot becomes excellent for kitesurfing with interesting small waves.
Launching is done directly from the large sandy beach, with no major obstacles. The spot offers a wide navigation area of about 300 meters, allowing for good circulation among riders. The sandy bottom and gradual depth make access very easy and safe for all levels.
The orientation of the beach allows for good wind management depending on its direction. In tramontane, the wind is side-shore to side-on, smoothing the water surface. In sea breeze, the wind becomes side-shore to side-off, creating interesting small waves for waveriders.
Ideal conditions at Aqualand are achieved with the tramontane for windsurfing and freestyle, and with the sea breeze for kitesurfing in small waves. The spot works well with regular and sustained winds, typical of the region.
