Coriolis Foilschool is a spot dedicated to foil on the Leucate lagoon, in Occitanie. Located in Port Leucate, it is the ideal school to discover kite foil, wing foil, and wake foil in a calm and protected environment.
The Salses-Leucate lagoon offers shallow waters perfect for learning. Sessions often take place at the wild spot of “La Mine,” a preserved place away from the crowds.
It is a popular location for riders seeking unique sliding sensations above the water, with consistent wind all year round.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The Coriolis Foilschool spot on the lagoon is oriented for a dominant side-shore wind from northwest to west, perfect for foil as the water remains flat even in strong winds. The launch is directly from the school base in Port Leucate, with a wide and obstacle-free take-off area. Navigation takes place in the shallow lagoon, up to the wild spot of La Mine accessible by boat for more exclusive space. There is no tidal influence as it is a closed lagoon, the water always remains calm and usable. The areas are marked for safety, ideal for foil initiation where you can stand everywhere, and for experienced riders who want to fly in light winds from 8-10 knots. Be cautious of other nearby schools like KSL or Kiteschool Leucate, coordinate to avoid crowded areas.
The ideal conditions are a side-shore wind of 10 to 25 knots from the northwest or west, allowing for easy flying above the flat water of the lagoon.
The state of the water is always very flat thanks to the shelter of the lagoon, perfect for smooth sliding on foil. Even in strong winds, there are no waves, just a slight chop in case of gusts.
In the Leucate lagoon, currents are non-existent or very weak as it is a closed body of water without ocean tides. There are no major risks related to currents, making it an ultra-safe spot for learning.
Opt for sizes from 9 to 12 m² in kite foil to enjoy the typical light wind of the lagoon, and go down to 7-9 m² in strong wind.
The prevailing wind comes from the northwest, often strong and consistent, with a score of 83/100 at the spot. It blows side-shore relative to the lagoon, ideal for foil, and can reach high speeds in winter and autumn.
The Mediterranean climate of Leucate offers more than 300 days of wind per year, with exceptional sunshine throughout the year. Temperatures range from 10°C in winter to 30°C in summer, making the spot usable 12 months a year.
The depth is very shallow with a flat sandy bottom. You can stand everywhere, even 50 meters from the shore, ideal for foil initiation without risk.
The water temperature in the lagoon ranges from 12°C in winter to 24°C in summer, comfortable with a shorty wetsuit from spring.
