Étang de Bages-Sigean
The Nautique is a kitesurfing spot located on the Bages-Sigean lagoon in Occitanie, about fifteen minutes from Narbonne. This little piece of paradise to the north of a vast lagoon offers refreshing sessions with stunning views of the village of Bages and the islands of the lagoon.
The nautical center on site offers courses for all levels in kitesurfing, windsurfing, or foiling, with equipment rental and a kite simulator. There are two areas for free practice: the Anse des Galères for windsurfing and the southeast part reserved for kitesurfing in a protected environment.
The spot is managed by the NAUTIKITE association in the Narbonnaise Regional Natural Park, with parking, picnic areas, and showers available.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
- 🟢 10–16 kts: light but sailable wind (especially on foil).
- 🟡 16–22 kts: ideal range, comfortable conditions for most.
- 🔴 22–28 kts: strong wind, reserved for experienced riders.
- 🟣 28+ kts: extreme conditions, committed riding.

Useful information
The spot is oriented to the north of the lagoon, ideal for the Tramontane blowing from the northwest in side-on or side-shore relative to the launch area. The launch area is large but mixed with sand, rocks, and dirt; be careful of the bushes behind the parking lot and the hidden rocks under the algae when entering the water.
The southeast navigation area is reserved for kitesurfing, natural and protected, allowing long runs towards Bages or the islands of Planasse and Soulier for the more experienced. The water surface is generally flat, perfect for freestyle, except when the Tramontane is strong where it becomes choppy.
Technical launch due to the rocks, secure take-off if the space is respected. Avoid leaving equipment lying around to not disturb other practitioners. The playground extends over several square kilometers, ideal for long distances.
The ideal conditions are a Tramontane of 15-25 knots from the northwest, side-on, for a flat water surface and long runs without risking the reduced launch area.
The water is often dirty with algae and debris like glass shards to avoid. The water surface is generally flat, suitable for freestyle and long runs, but can become choppy under strong Tramontane.
Currents are weak in the Bages-Sigean lagoon, as it is a closed lagoon with little exchange with the sea. Tides have a limited impact, but local variations near the channels should be monitored.
Opt for sizes from 9 to 12 m² in typical moderate Tramontane conditions, and go down to 7-9 m² when the wind strengthens beyond 25 knots.
The Tramontane, a north or northwest wind, is the dominant regime and makes this spot the first affected in the region. It blows regularly strong, from 15 to 30 knots or more, ideal for powerful sessions.
The wind score is high at 85/100, with a typical direction around 270° (west).
The Mediterranean climate of Occitanie offers mild temperatures year-round, with hot summers around 25-30°C and mild winters around 10-15°C. The seasons are marked by a regular wind thanks to the proximity of the reliefs that channel the Tramontane.
The best months for kitesurfing are all year round, peaking in winter and spring when the wind is most consistent.
The depth is gradual with a mostly sandy and muddy bottom. You can stand for a good distance from the launch area, ideal for self-rescue.
Water temperatures range from 12-15°C in winter to 22-25°C in summer in this Mediterranean lagoon. A 4/3 wetsuit is recommended outside the summer season.
