The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
Aytré beach is oriented west-southwest, making it ideal for side-on or side-shore winds coming from the southwest or west, with currents in the Atlantic. The water surface generally remains calm due to the shallow water where you can stand everywhere, perfect for launching and riding. The launch area is directly from the wide beach, with a clear navigation area in front of the spot. At low tide, the sandy bottom is exposed in places, creating a stable space for beginners. Sessions take place from March to October, with flexibility on wind orientation thanks to the beach configuration. Be cautious on days with strong onshore winds that can make the water surface choppier near the shore.
Ideal conditions are a side-shore wind of 15 to 25 knots, oriented southwest to west, for a clean water surface and consistent power.
The water surface is often flat to slightly choppy, ideal for learning and tricks. At high tide, it gains depth without big waves, remaining navigable all day.
Currents are weak at Aytré beach due to the sheltered configuration, but they increase with the tides in the Atlantic. It is necessary to check tide times to avoid stronger flows near the passes.
