Salinas

Punta Salinas Beach, located at the end of the Playa Salinas bay in the province of Peravia, is an isolated spot near the Bahía de Las Calderas naval base. It is a quiet place with few people, ideal for kitesurfing thanks to its reliable wind and peaceful atmosphere.

A few kilometers from Bani, this exotic beach is accessed after a drive through a dry landscape. Near Salinas, known for its salt flats, the beach offers shallow water and a view of the nearby Bani dunes.

Locals and kitesurfing schools appreciate this authentic corner, with no excessive constructions, just a bar-restaurant and the military base nearby.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.

  • 🟢 10–16 kts: light but sailable wind (especially on foil).

Riding conditions

The main launch area is at the point, where a sandy and shell-strewn beach allows for easy takeoff. The wind generally blows onshore across the bay towards the point, then becomes offshore on the other side towards the open ocean. When the wind shifts, you can explore the entire bay for navigation.

The navigation area is wide and protected in the bay, perfect for progression, with a calm water section just under the point ideal for tricks. The launch is accessible for all levels, but check for debris on the beach before launching. It is a remote spot, so plan to bring all your gear and extras.

Few facilities on site: bring water, snacks, and complete equipment. The bay offers space for all riders, from beginners to advanced, without crowds.

Ideal conditions are with onshore to side-onshore wind of 15-25 knots, stable in the bay for smooth and safe navigation.

Sea state

The water is shallow with a sandy bottom, ideal for beginners. The water remains calm in the bay, becoming more choppy towards the outside depending on the wind strength.

Sea currents

Currents are generally weak in the protected bay. However, be cautious near the point and open areas where they can intensify with offshore wind.

Recommended kite size

Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² on average depending on local wind strength, smaller towards the open ocean and larger in the calm bay.

Weather & wind

The wind is steady and considered the best in the country, blowing almost every day. It often comes from the south or southwest, onshore in the bay, with strengths suitable for kitesurfing. The best months cover the entire year, from January to December, with no real low season.

Climate

The climate in the Peravia region is warm tropical year-round, with average temperatures around 25-30°C. The dry seasons from December to April bring more consistent wind, while the rainy season from May to November is wetter but still navigable.

No cold winter, the water remains pleasant and the spot is navigable 12 months according to weather data.

Depth

The depth is gradual with a mainly sandy bottom. You can stand for a long time from the shore due to the shallow water of the bay.

Water temperature

Water temperatures vary little, around 26-29°C year-round in this Caribbean region, a shorty is often sufficient.
