Ipsach, on Lake Biel in the canton of Bern, is a popular kitesurfing spot in French-speaking Switzerland. Located near the city of Biel, it offers an idyllic setting with its small pebble beaches and lawns right by the water, a restaurant, and barbecue areas.
The landscape is dominated by the Saint-Pierre Island opposite, an accessible peninsula that adds to the charm of the place. It is a favorite spot for locals due to its conditions suited for the bise, with a friendly atmosphere.
The water sports facilities are well developed, making the spot accessible for regular sessions on this large lake.

The spot at Ipsach primarily works with the bise, a stable weather wind coming from the NNE that establishes itself on Lake Biel. This wind is side-shore relative to the southwest-oriented beach, allowing for easy water entry from the sandy and pebbly areas without too much sideshore drift.
The navigation area extends widely across the lake, with a large downwind area towards the east towards Biel. Launching takes place directly on the public beach, wide and clear, ideal for solo or group riders. There is no tidal influence since it is a lake, the water surface remains constant with a mix of flat near the shore and chop offshore when the wind picks up.
In light bise (10-20 kts), the spot is perfect for freeride and freestyle in calm water; beyond 25 kts, small chop forms but remains manageable. Be cautious in areas near Saint-Pierre Island where the wind can be gustier due to the surrounding terrain. The best times are in the afternoon during thermal or established bise conditions, with optimal orientation from NE to NNE for a power side-on.
