The Dullive beach, located in Dully on the shores of Léman in Vaud, Switzerland, is a discreet spot favored by locals for its kitesurf sessions. Lined with trees, it offers a calm setting between Nyon and the port of Rolle, with a grassy and sandy beach ideal for setting up gear.
It is a typical lake spot where people come for the bise, this regular northeast wind that makes sessions fun in light wind. Experienced riders find their satisfaction here despite the constraints of beachgoers in summer.
Open all year round, the spot remains accessible even off-season, with a relaxed atmosphere away from the crowds of the large Vaud beaches.
The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The spot mainly works with the bise, a northeast wind that blows side-on relative to the southwest-oriented beach. It is ideal for regular sessions on the lake, with a water surface that remains flat to chop depending on wind strength, without influential tides as it is freshwater.
Water entry is directly from the grassy-sandy beach, about thirty meters wide, but be careful of the trees lining the shore that complicate launching and landing – no trees on the beach itself but around, so maneuver with caution. The navigation area extends out into Léman, while remaining vigilant about swimming areas and beachgoers in good weather.
In light NE wind (8-15 knots), it’s perfect for freestyle or freeride; beyond that, the chop rises quickly on the lake. The main channel of the lake is at a distance, but the current can surprise near neighboring ports. Spot open 365 days/year, but limited in July-August when families occupy the beach.
Ideal conditions are a northeast wind between 10 and 18 knots, side-on, for a smooth water surface and controllable sessions despite the trees.
The water state is often flat in light wind, turning to chop moderate at 15 knots. Rarely small waves occur with a long fetch from the north of the lake.
Currents are generally weak on Léman, but they can accelerate near channels or with strong bise winds pushing water south. There are no tides in freshwater, so the level remains stable.
Be cautious near areas close to ports like Rolle where the drift current can be significant.
Opt for sizes from 9 to 12 m² in light bise wind, dropping to 7-9 m² when it picks up. Adjust according to your weight and style, favoring stable kites for precise landings.
The dominant wind regime is the bise, a thermal wind from the northeast that rises in the afternoon during dry periods, with typical strengths of 8 to 20 knots. It blows regularly from October to April, making the spot reliable for local riders.
Sometimes complemented by north or east winds, but the bise remains the local name and the most consistent in this part of Léman.
The climate around Léman is continental with cold winters and mild summers. Temperatures range from 0°C in January to 25°C in July, with possible frosts in winter but rideable sessions starting in spring.
Dry seasons favor the bise in autumn and spring, while summer brings more thermal stability but also more people on the beaches.
The depth is gradual with a sandy and grassy bottom. You can stand up to 20-30 meters from the shore, ideal for safe water entry.
The water temperature of Léman ranges from 4-8°C in winter to 20-24°C in summer. In spring and autumn, expect 12-18°C, perfect with a shorty wetsuit.
