The beach of La Preneuse, located in Rivière Noire on the west coast of Mauritius, is an authentic and peaceful spot that attracts kitesurfing enthusiasts looking for a local atmosphere. It is an ideal place for swimming and kitesurfing, with clear and calm water, shallow for several meters. The beach also offers a remarkable view of Le Morne Brabant in the distance, particularly spectacular at sunset. Its proximity to the renowned spots of Morne (a few kilometers away) makes it a good base for exploring the region.
La Preneuse benefits from generally calm and sheltered conditions due to its position on the west coast. The prevailing wind comes from the southwest to the west, creating side-shore to side-on conditions depending on the periods. The water is turquoise and shallow, forming a flat lagoon ideal for freestyle and learning.
Entry is easy from the fine sandy beach. The water surface generally remains flat to very slightly choppy, especially in low tide conditions. The navigation area is well cleared, without major obstacles. Kitesurfing schools often operate from this beach, indicating accessible and safe conditions for beginners.
Nearby, towards Morne, there are passes and reef areas with more pronounced waves for advanced riders. The current is generally weak at La Preneuse, but one must remain vigilant near the passes where it can intensify.
