Base de Loisirs des Mottets
France · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
The Base de Loisirs des Mottets is located on the shores of Lake Bourget, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is a family-friendly spot with supervised beaches in season, lawns for picnicking, and playgrounds. Kitesurfers come here for the large flat and shallow area.
The local kitesurf club has been animating the spot since 2011 and organizes sessions. The launch is done from the water, in a relaxed atmosphere despite the summer crowds.
The view of the 18 km of the lake is nice, with easy access by parking or greenway.

The spot mainly works with the Bise from the north (N, NNE, NE), a gusty thermal wind that pushes towards the south of the lake. In west wind (Traverse), it is side-shore crossing the lake in its length, ideal for long freeride sessions, but it picks up late in the afternoon around 5-6 PM, until 9 PM with 10-15 knots or more, 2-3 times a week in summer.
Launching from the water is mandatory, with a wide and shallow take-off area. The navigation area is large and shallow to the south of the beach, perfect for easy upwind. Be cautious of crowds in high season, avoid supervised swimming areas. No tidal influence, the water surface remains constant.
The north wind is stronger but gusty, while the west wind is smoother and thermal. Prefer the southern edge for the Traverse, which is more consistent.
