Plage du Betey
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The Betey beach in Andernos-les-Bains, at the end of the Arcachon Bay, is a small fine sandy beach next to the marina. Surrounded by a wooded park with a playground, it offers a family-friendly and calm setting, perfect for beginners in kitesurfing.
It is the ideal spot to learn thanks to its extensive sandy bank that allows you to stand very far out. Landings and take-offs are safely done on the wide beach, and you can repeat maneuvers without stress.
The spot is quieter from October to March, with fewer people and mooring buoys, unlike July and August when it is closed to kiters due to bathers.

The spot works well with winds from the NW, W, SW, S, SE sectors, which are often side-shore or side-on relative to the beach facing the bay. The launch is done directly from the sandy beach, with a wide and clear take-off area on the sand at high tide.
Navigation is limited to the sandy bank area in front of the beach, where you can stand a good distance from the shore, ideal for water starts and first runs. The water surface is generally flat to light chop in the sheltered bay, but it changes with the tides: navigable only 2 to 3 hours before and after high tide, as at low tide the beach extends a lot and the water recedes far.
Be careful of mooring buoys in season, which reduce space; prefer sessions outside of summer. Local schools like Flyway organize courses here, with accessible facilities and nearby parking at the port or the promenade of the Piscine.
