Jericoacoara, often called “Jeri”, is one of the most mythical places in Brazil. Nestled between dunes, ocean, and lagoons, this former fishing enclave is now a symbol of freedom and natural beauty. The village, built on sand, allows no cars or paved roads: people move around on foot, by buggy, or on horseback. At the end of the day, everyone gathers on the Duna do Pôr do Sol, this immense iconic dune where the sun slowly dips into the Atlantic. Just below, Praia Principal welcomes the most curious kitesurfers or riders looking for an express session, in a spectacular yet technical setting. It is not the main performance spot (Préa is more so), but rather a charming spot, where you literally kite in the heart of a dreamlike setting, surrounded by dunes, cliffs, and the village just a few meters away. It is also an ideal place for short sunset sessions, to navigate in golden light, in warm wind, and in a timeless atmosphere.

Kiting on Praia Principal de Jeri is a unique visual and sensory experience, but one must know how to cope with the tide and local relief. At low tide, the sea recedes significantly, forming a vast area of shallow and relatively flat water. This is the best time to kite, especially for intermediate riders. At rising or high tide, the waves become more pronounced, and the usable area decreases considerably. The wind remains strong, but the takeoff and landing space becomes narrow. The east to southeast wind arrives slightly side-onshore, between 18 and 25 knots, sometimes with a compression effect created by the dunes, which can make it a bit more turbulent near the shore. It’s a short and technical spot, perfect for experienced riders looking for a different navigation experience, in a cinematic setting. The water entry is directly from the village beach, often under the eyes of tourists and photographers — a unique charm, but it requires a bit of precision.
