Zandvoort Strand
Pays-Bas · North Holland
Zandvoort aan Zee, on the Dutch north coast, is a popular spot for riders due to its consistent waves and friendly atmosphere. Located near Amsterdam, accessible by train in 25 minutes, it attracts both locals and visitors.
The spot is divided into several official kitesurfing zones, such as the one near 'The Spot' in the center or south towards the Watersport Vereniging. It is a lively place in summer with its beach clubs, but less crowded than elsewhere when the wind blows.
The locals are nice and ready to help with launching or landing, making the experience enjoyable even for freeride or wave sessions.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The prevailing winds come from SW to N, often side-shore or side-on depending on the area, allowing for good control over small to medium waves. The launch area is on wide sand, but watch for reduced width at high tide in some areas.
There are six zones marked by poles (numbered posts): zone 1 near Helios, zone 3 at The Spot (the most central and popular), zone 4 at the Watersport Vereniging, and the quieter southern zones. Stay 150m from the shore year-round, and off-season (October 1 - April 15), there are no restrictions; in summer, kite only in the watersport zones.
The water is choppy with waves reforming on sandbanks, ideal for wave riding. Launch near beach clubs like The Spot or De Zilvermeeuw to the south for more space. Beware of strong drift currents visible by the chop, especially for beginners who should go upwind.
