My hoa
Vietnam · Khánh Hòa Province
The My Hoa lagoon, located near Phan Rang in Khánh Hòa province, Vietnam, is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its shallow and flat water. Protected by a coral reef, it offers an authentic setting with palm-fringed beaches and views of rocky mountains.
It is a calm and welcoming place, with a family atmosphere and local facilities such as kite schools and restaurants right on the beach. Locals and beach boys often assist with launching and landing the kites.
Less crowded than other Vietnamese spots like Mui Ne, My Hoa attracts riders looking to progress in freestyle or ride waves beyond the reef.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The wind generally blows side-shore to side-on from the northeast in winter, perpendicular to the reef, allowing plenty of space to navigate without interference. The main riding area is a vast flat lagoon 500-1500 m wide and several km long, ideal for freestyle and jumps.
Launching is done from a small sandy beach about 5 km, but you often have to walk 500-1000 m on foot at low tide to reach the water, or enter a bit into the water at high tide to launch. Ask the beach boys for help with takeoff and landing, and always roll up your lines after the session to free up space.
Outside the lagoon, after the reef at 500-1000 m, there are powerful waves of 1 to 3 m, perfect for wave riding. The water remains flat in the lagoon, with a bit of chop if the wind is strong, and medium waves beyond the reef.
