Seal Beach
United States · Californie
Seal Beach, located in Southern California about 28 miles south of Los Angeles, between Long Beach and Huntington Beach, is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its accessibility and consistent conditions. It is a wide sandy beach that hosts a variety of water sports and offers a laid-back atmosphere away from the crowds.
Seal Beach is distinguished by its clearly marked legal kite zone, making it a safe and organized place to practice kitesurfing. The spot is particularly favored by intermediate riders who have mastered upwind navigation techniques and can handle the small waves present.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
Seal Beach benefits from a unique geographical position that makes it a true wind tunnel due to its location under the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The prevailing wind comes from the southwest (SW), creating very favorable side-shore to side-on conditions for kitesurfing.
The water surface is generally fairly flat with small waves, particularly in summer. The most interesting waves are found at the end of the pier and in the river mouth, where they are more developed, especially in spring. The launch area is spacious with a large launch beach, making takeoffs and landings easier.
Conditions do not significantly depend on tides at this spot, making sessions predictable. However, it is imperative to stay upwind of the Seal Beach pier to avoid obstacles and other beach users. The spot gets very crowded in summer (June, July, August), which requires good situational awareness.
