Bantham Beach
Royaume-Uni · England
Bantham Beach, located in South Devon near Thurlestone, is a popular spot for its location at the confluence of a river and the ocean. With its fine sandy beach and dunes, it attracts surfers and kitesurfers looking for varied conditions. The atmosphere is relaxed, surrounded by picturesque villages and coastal landscapes typical of the southwest of England.
It is a family-friendly place with parking managed by the National Trust, accessible year-round. The spot offers plenty of space to navigate, especially at low and mid tide, and remains relatively uncrowded outside of busy weekends.

Bantham Beach works well with a side-on to side-off wind coming from the northeast, considered ideal offshore for smoothing the water surface. In onshore southwest wind, conditions remain navigable for intermediates but become choppy. Launching is easy on the compacted sand at low tide, with plenty of space for takeoff and landing in the middle of the beach or towards the estuary.
At high tide, space drastically reduces at Bantham, making launching technical and risky; prefer wider areas towards the mouth. The navigation area extends several hundred meters along the beach and into the bay, with the water surface ranging from flat to choppy depending on the tide and swell. Be cautious of many surfers near the river and rips during the outgoing tide. The sand varies from compacted to very soft near the estuary, ideal for freeriders in light conditions.
