The Bunkeflostrand spot faces west and works well with winds from sector W, NW, SW, which come in side-on or side-shore from the sea. The beach is wide with fine sand, ideal for launching and taking off, even for beginners. The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, with space to turn without risk of collision when not crowded.
No notable tide in Öresund, so conditions remain consistent throughout the day. In summer, the water is flat to chop near the shore, with a slight swell possible in strong winds. Be cautious of swimmers in high season: stay offshore. Launching is done directly on the beach, but choose an area clear of walkers.
Close to Malmö, everything is accessible within a 20-minute drive from the center. Thermal winds pick up in the afternoon in summer, perfect for a session after work.
Ideal conditions are side-shore winds from W to NW between 15 and 25 knots, for a smooth and manageable water surface.
The water state is generally flat to chop near the beach, with a small swell offshore by side-offshore winds. The bottom is sandy, with no visible rocks, making navigation safe for all levels.
Currents are weak in the Öresund, due to the absence of significant tides. No dangerous channels reported, but remain vigilant in strong winds where the water can slightly accelerate southward.
Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² on average, depending on your weight and the local wind. 7-9 m² for strong gusts, 11-13 m² on light days.
The prevailing winds come from the northwest and west, with average gusts of 15-25 knots in season. No specific local name, but Baltic depressions bring regular wind, especially in autumn and spring. The score of 78/100 indicates good consistency, and all months are viable.
The climate in Skåne is temperate oceanic, with mild summers around 20-25°C and cold winters around 0-5°C. Precipitation is regular throughout the year, but the summer months from June to August offer the best sunny windows. In winter, the days are short, but the wind remains reliable.
The depth increases gradually with a sandy bottom. You can stand up to about 50-100 m from the shore, perfect for relaunching.
In summer, the water reaches 18-22°C from June to August. In spring and autumn, expect 10-15°C, and 2-5°C in winter – wetsuit required off-season.
