The dominant wind comes from the north to northwest (N-NE), often side-on or side-off relative to the east-facing beach, making the launch smooth and navigation stable. The launch area is directly on the wide beach in front of the Waikiki Beach Club, with ample space to inflate the kite without disturbing bathers. The navigation area extends offshore in the bay of Corralejo, with an inside flat to light chop ideal for tricks and jumps, but be cautious of rougher areas near the port to the south.
With high tide, the water surface is wider and you can stand for a long time thanks to the shallow waters typical of the region, perfect for waterstarts and jibes. At low tide, the beach widens but rocks appear, making launching more technical – prefer the high tide. The best sessions are in the afternoon when the thermal wind strengthens the trade wind, with moderate gusts due to the proximity of the dunes.
The spot is crowded in high season, especially with nearby schools like at Flag Beach, so respect dedicated areas and local rules to avoid collisions. For rides, stay in line with the beach to enjoy the best side-shore and moderate waves if the swell rises.
Ideal conditions are a side-on to side-off wind from N-NE between 18 and 25 knots, with high tide to maximize the navigable area and minimize rocks.
The water surface is typically choppy with small waves at the edge, becoming flat inside during side winds. The clear and shallow waters favor jumps and freestyle, but heavy traffic creates chaos during peak hours.
Currents are generally weak in the protected bay of Corralejo, but they can strengthen near the port to the south or with swell. Atlantic tides have a moderate range (2-3m), influencing depth without major danger for experienced kiters.
Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12m² in medium wind, going down to 7-9m² when it picks up beyond 25 knots, and 12-14m² on the rare light days.
The wind regime is dominated by the northeast trade wind, blowing regularly between 15 and 25 knots, even more in season (April to August). In Corralejo, it is very consistent due to the effect of the dunes, with reliable side-off sessions in N-NE. Windless days are rare, and the thermal wind strengthens in the afternoon.
Fuerteventura enjoys a dry subtropical climate year-round, with mild temperatures between 20°C and 28°C. The summer months (June to September) are the hottest and driest, while winter remains pleasant without extreme cold. The wind score 92/100 indicates consistent conditions over 12 months, best from spring to autumn.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom, you can stand up to about 100m from the shore, ideal for restarts and beginners.
The water remains warm year-round between 19°C in winter and 23°C in summer, a shorty lycra is often sufficient but consider a 3/2 neo in the cold season.
