South Africa
Langebaan beach, located in the Western Cape of South Africa, is at the heart of a turquoise lagoon protected by the West Coast National Park. It is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its shallow waters and consistent wind, with a relaxed beach village atmosphere.
The Main Beach is located at the end of the village's main street. It offers plenty of space to set up, especially at low tide, and stunning views of the bay.
Nearby, Shark Bay attracts beginners with its milder conditions, while experienced riders prefer Main Beach for its more dynamic sessions.

The Langebaan beach spot works with dominant southeast winds in the peak season from October to March, which are side-on relative to the southwest-facing beach, providing regular and consistent power for freeride or freestyle sessions.
The navigation area extends half a kilometer from the beach, with plenty of space between the shore and Schaapen Island at 500 meters. Launching is easy on the fine sand, and the take-off area is wide, especially at low tide where you can stand for a long time.
At high tide, the space on the water opens towards the protected marine area to the southeast, but the chop may slightly increase at Main Beach. Shark Bay remains more sheltered and flat. Downwinds often start from Langebaan and finish further north.
The waters are generally shallow, ideal for progressing safely, with a water surface that ranges from perfectly flat to slightly choppy depending on the tide and chosen spot.
Ideal conditions are with a southeast side-on wind between 20 and 30 knots, stable and thermal, to fully enjoy the flat water.
This suits all levels, especially in peak season when the probability is highest.
The water state is flat at low tide across the lagoon, perfect for freestyle and learning.
At high tide, a slight chop forms at Main Beach, while Shark Bay remains calmer. The turquoise waters are shallow and translucent.
Currents are generally weak in the protected lagoon, but they can strengthen near the channels at low tide.
Tides strongly influence the spot, with a notable range that alters the navigable space. It is essential to check tide schedules to optimize the session.
For typical winds of 20-40 knots, plan for kite sizes of 7 to 11 m² in peak season, and 10 to 14 m² in low season.
Intermediate and advanced riders often opt for 9-11 m² at Main Beach.
The wind regime is dominated by the southeast wind, locally called "Southeaster", which blows at 20 to 40 knots in the peak season from October to March with a probability of 95%.
In the low season from April to September, the winds are lighter between 10 and 20 knots, with a reliability of 45%. The wind is consistent and thermal, picking up in the late morning.
The climate in Langebaan is warm and dry year-round, with temperatures often exceeding 25°C during the day in the peak season from November to April.
The Southern Hemisphere winter (May to August) is milder, with sunny days ideal for kiting despite lighter winds. The surrounding national park offers a wild setting with dunes and local wildlife.
The waters are shallow with a sandy bottom throughout the lagoon. You can stand up to 50-100 meters from the shore at low tide.
Ideal for waterstarts and falls without risk.
The water temperature averages around 17°C year-round, warmer in the Southern Hemisphere summer at around 20°C.
A lycra or a thin combo is usually sufficient.
