Frigate Island
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines · Grenadines
Frigate Island, just south of Union Island in the Grenadines, is a small islet accessible only by boat or by kite. It is an isolated spot popular for its ultra flat water and its wild setting surrounded by mangroves.
Ten minutes from the JT Pro Center in Clifton, there is a small sandy beach for takeoff or you can launch directly from the boat. The atmosphere is calm, away from the crowd, perfect for progressing at your own pace.
The spot is suitable for beginners as well as freestylers, with a typical paradisiacal backdrop of the Grenadines.

The wind typically blows offshore or side-off relative to the lagoon, creating ultra flat conditions ideal for freestyle and learning. Launching is done from the small sandy beach or directly from the boat, with a limited but easily accessible takeoff area.
The navigation area is a shallow protected lagoon, perfect for jumps and tricks, but it can become a bit choppy at high tide. For waves, you need to go upwind towards the reef or Palm Island, accessible in a few tacks.
The spot is remote, so plan for a safety boat from Union Island. It's a must for a downwinder from Clifton, with turquoise water and generally few people.
