Panama · Panamá Oeste
Main Beach in Punta Chame, in the province of Panamá Oeste, is a vast stretch of sand on the Pacific peninsula. It is the main kitesurfing spot, with consistent wind and a relaxed fishing village atmosphere.
The spot offers a wide variety of conditions depending on the tides, from flat lagoons to small waves offshore. Kitesurfing schools and camps are set up right on site for easy access.
Nearby, excursions to sandbanks or lagoons allow for further exploration, ideal for all levels.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The main wind comes from the N to NE, which gives a cross-on orientation relative to the south-facing beach. In the morning, the wind is lighter and smoother, perfect for a calm session, then it weakens around noon before strengthening in the afternoon up to 15-30 knots.
Launching is done directly on the hard sand beach without rocks. At low tide, a large lagoon forms with an ultra flat water surface on the sandbanks, ideal for beginners and intermediates up to 100-150m from the shore. Advanced riders can navigate anywhere.
At high tide, the water rises to the kite camp, the beach shrinks to less than 10m in places, and the water surface becomes more chop with small waves. Launching area on grass at the schools in high tide. For flat butter, aim for the sandbanks towards Isla Taborcillo at low tide during a full moon, accessible in 20min upwind or by organized boat.
The nearby lagoons work better at mid-tide for 2-3 hours of freestyle session. Be careful, there is no downwind space beyond the grassy areas at high tide.
